Pharmaceutical name: Triamcinolone Acetonide
Pack: 1 vial (1 ml (10 mg))
Kenacort injection consists of Triamcinolone Acetonide in a sterile aqueous suspension that is suitable for both intralesional and intra-articular injections. It is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid known for its strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Each milliliter of this injection contains 10 mg of Triamcinolone Acetonide, along with sodium chloride for isotonicity, 0.9% (w/v) benzyl alcohol as a preservative, 0.75% carboxymethylcellulose sodium, and 0.04% polysorbate 80. Sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust the pH within the range of 5.0 to 7.5. During manufacturing, the air in the container is replaced with nitrogen.

Kenacort Injection is indicated as an adjunctive short-term treatment for acute gouty arthritis, acute and subacute bursitis, acute nonspecific tenosynovitis, epicondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, synovitis, or osteoarthritis. It is also used for treating conditions such as alopecia areata, discoid lupus erythematosus, keloids, localized hypertrophic, infiltrated, inflammatory lesions of granuloma annulare, lichen planus, lichen simplex chronicus (neurodermatitis), psoriatic plaques, and necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum. Additionally, the injection may be beneficial for cystic tumors associated with an aponeurosis or tendon (ganglia).

The starting dosage of Kenacort injection for intra-articular use can range from 2.5 mg to 5 mg for smaller joints, while for larger joints, it typically ranges from 5 to 15 mg, depending on the specific condition being treated. Single injections into multiple joints can total up to 20 mg or more. For intralesional administration, the initial dose will depend on the specific disease and lesion being addressed. Given the risk of cutaneous atrophy, careful consideration should be given to the injection site and volume.

It's important to remember that a larger total volume used can lead to increased systemic absorption and effects of the corticosteroid. Many sites that are at least one centimeter apart may be injected. When a localized concentration of corticosteroid is needed, lower dosages from the initial dose range of Triamcinolone Acetonide may achieve the desired outcome. The choice of site and injection volume should be approached with caution.

Before receiving these injections, it is essential to inform your doctor about your complete medical history. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, this information must also be shared with your doctor.
